Mountain Biking Safety
The Mountain Biker's Responsibility Code has been developed to help inform riders about the information, decision-making and actions every rider should know and take prior to and while riding on the variety of trails within a ski area’s trail network.
Similar to the 10 points of Your Responsibility Code, this code reminds riders that there are elements of risk in mountain biking that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce. Check with area employees to see if there are other local considerations for which you should be aware, such as wildlife.
Mountain Bike Checklist- For those riding own Bike
The trails of Mountain High Resort may be rough and demanding on both the bike and body. Before riding always inspect your equipment or have it checked by a qualified bike mechanic.
- Ensure your helmet is in good shape and properly adjusted
- Inspect bike frame for cracks and damaged or dented areas.
- Ensure your brakes are adjusted properly to stop your bike while descending.
- Front and rear axles should be tight.
- Headset and stem must be secure with no looseness or play.
- Check that your tires are in good condition, with no tears or cuts in the sidewall.
- Handle bar and handle grips must be tight and unable to spin. Seat and seat post need to be fastened securely.
Trail maps are available for guests that accurately depict mountain bike trails and appropriate levels of difficulty. WE highly recommend that for your own safety that you stay on designated, patrolled and Maintained Mountain High trails.
Take the time to read all On-mountain trail signage and pay attention to trail ratings.
Future Construction
Trail construction is taking place in 3 phases. Phase I is underway and consists of 8 downhill trails totaling approximately 3 miles. Of the 8 downhill trails, 3 are designed to be easier, 4 will be more difficult and 1 will be most difficult.
The Phase I trail network will be served by the Blue Ridge Express chairlift at Mountain High’s West Resort.
In addition to downhill trails, Mountain High is planning to implement a Skills Park where guests can practice their technique on small, stationary features such as:
- Roller to a small jump
- Wooden banks
- Wooden platforms to small drops
These training mechanisms are designed to help new participants get comfortable with their equipment before hitting the mountain. Mountain High also offers retail wear along with delicious food & beverage. Bike Rentals will be coming SOON.
Phase 2 will take place during the Summer of 2026 and consist of 5 more trails equating to roughly 6 more miles of terrain at its West Resort, primarily more difficult to most difficult.
Phase 3 is scheduled to take place Spring of 2027 and consist of another 5 miles of more difficult to advanced trails, also at its West Resort.
Says Ben Smith, Vice President & General Manager, “This is an incredibly exciting time and I thank the Forest Service along with everyone else who helped get us here."
