Snowmaking operations have officially begun at Mountain High Resort and the Wrightwood resort is making an attempt to open for the 2012/13 season.  The combination of cold temperatures and light natural snow make for perfect conditions and, if things go well, Mountain High could open as early as Sunday morning, November 11th.  If this occurs, Mountain High will be the first resort to open in Southern California for the 16th year in a row.

Says Ben Smith, General Manager, “We’ve been preparing all summer for this.  New snowmaking will help us open faster than ever and we are excited to get the 2012/13 season underway.”

If Mountain High is able to open Sunday, the resort would make its annual pledge to the Military and offer FREE Skiing on Veterans Day, Monday, November 12th.   Requirements are:
-Active duty and retired military must present their military identification card.
-Prior-service personnel should a) bring a COPY of DD-214 plus photo ID (e.g. driver's license)  or b) wear one of your ribbons on your left jacket collar and be able to identify the ribbon.  NOTE: It is a federal offense to wear the ribbon if one has not earned the right per the Stolen Valor Act of 2005.

Once open operating hours will be 8:30am to 4:00pm and tickets will be $45 for adults and $25 for children ages 7 to 12.  Kids six and under ski FREE with a paying adult.  Mountain High expects to open with Upper Chisolm, Lower Chisolm, Cruiser, and Creekside offering a good mix of beginner and intermediate terrain.  There will also be a number of terrain features available for freestyle skiers and snowboarders.  A full line of rental and retail products will be available along with repair services and food & beverage.  The Winter Sports School is not yet offering lessons but will as soon as the mountain has the necessary beginner terrain.

Due to the recent storm Mountain High has extended its Freedom Pass sale to Sunday, November 11th.  Prices are up to 57% off for an Anytime Season Pass and benefits include FREE SKIING at Stevens Pass, WA, Sierra At Tahoe, and China Peak, CA.  Click here for complete details.  http://www.mthigh.com/season-pass-sale

Mountain High is Southern California’s closest winter resort located just an hour and a half from Los Angeles and Orange County. The area consists of three separate mountains (Mountain High East, West, and North), and offers a wide variety of lifts and trails, a world-class terrain park, an outstanding Winter Sports School, and the region’s largest tubing area. Night skiing & snowboarding is available 5 nights-a-week and snowmaking covers more than 80% of the slopes.  Mountain High has been the first resort to open in Southern California for the past 15 years and traditionally operates from mid November to mid April.
