Yeah it is a much shorter distance and is faster, especially on weekdays. In the mornings the traffic is all going 14 South/5 South from Palmdale and in the afternoon/evening it's all coming 5 North/14 North from everyone getting off work in LA or the valley. If you don't like Pearblossom take Barrel Springs(not viable once there/if there is a big dump).

If you like light hearted punk, ska or podcasts by funny people I'll occasionally have room for three more people.  My weekend trips are usually full but I get out mid-week in the mornings as well.  The only turd in this punchbowl is... I leave the mountain early midweeks.  11am-ish.

So... if you want to ride midweek but need to be back by lunch (and can deal with waking up at the buttcrack of dawn)... I'm down to share my ride.

Night riding is not that bad.  It depends on the conditions of course BUT there are times when it is better than during the day.  It is always less crowded for one.  Two, there is a cinderella hour where all the water drains out of the snow because there is no more melt but it hasn't started to re-freeze yet.  The snow is heavy but has a great slide to it so that if you fall, it's like a slip & slide.  Get a yellow night lense and add a layer.  I rarely go just for a night ride but often stay from opening until close.

It's not like I havn't ridden at night. I just don't like it nearly as much as getting there at 730-8 and riding until late afternoon/evening. Night riding is not the same as night riding while it's dumping and you have 10-15 feet of visibility... I'd rather show up ridiculously early to ride that powder.
